If you were to imagine the perfect day, what would it include?
Would you take in a sporting event, community festival or theatrical
production? Would you go shopping or golfing? Or take a hike
in the Chippewa National Forest? Would you end the day with a paddle
by moonlight?
Around Lake Winnie, all things are possible. Nearby towns such
as Bemidji, Cass Lake, Walker, Deer River and Grand Rapids are
unique and tourist–friendly communities. In them, you’ll
find stage and musical productions, historical sites and museums,
movie theaters, restaurants, art galleries, gift shops, antique
dealers, mini-golf courses, bowling alleys and more. Such towns
also host seasonal festivals and craft fairs and sporting events
from biathlons and triathlons to canoe races and ski jumping. You’ll
also find championship golf courses and a few casinos. In fact,
there’s a casino within 30 minutes of every resort in the
Lake Winnie area.
If you prefer a quieter pace, try exploring the Chippewa National Forest — the
first national forest established east of the Mississippi River. It encompasses
nearly 1.6 million acres with almost 1,300 lakes — including all 70,000
acres of Lake Winnibigoshish and Cut Foot Sioux. The Chippewa National
Forest boasts 100+ miles of forest trails allowing abundant opportunity for
berry picking, wildlife viewing, mountain biking, fall color observing, hunting
and cross country skiing.
With so much so near by, Lake Winnie really does make
all things possible. And whether you leap from crazed sports fan to meditative
canoeist or fearless water skier to arts connoisseur, making the
jump is easy. All you have to do is get to Lake Winnie.
