While last weekend’s rain didn’t help make ice, the ice did firm up with a couple of nights of colder weather early this week. There are still sketchy spots throughout the main lake, but certain areas are being fished or spear houses are being taken out. It’s probably best to work through a resort. Tamarack Bay and the Third River area now have 7 to 10 inches of ice, while parts of the west shore, including out from the Mississippi River have 6 to 7 inches of ice. Spearing reports have been decent from Third River, while Tamarack Bay and a few in-close shoreline breaks are giving up some walleyes and perch in less than 12 feet.
