January 7th Fishing Report

On the south end, there are 12 inches of ice and some cracks have developed, so ATVs are the best way to move around. The perch bite has been on and off and the people moving around are doing best for bigger fish in 18 to 23 feet. Walleyes also are being caught in 18 to 23 feet with some keeping-size fish, big walleyes, and numbers of small fish mixed in. On the west side, 13 to 14 inches of ice is being found and although some trucks have started being used, ATVs are the safest option. Work the 14- to 23-foot structure for walleyes or the 10- to 15-foot breaks, points, and flats for perch. Check with resorts for travel options heading into this weekend.
